The team Citrix XenClient is the kickoff of a series of articles XenClient Best Practices. In our first article of 2012, we will explain how to mount an image file on the virtual disk in a XenClient VM. Typically, our customers are doing this so they can install an operating system from an ISO file. This is an alternative to installing the operating system from a DVD
The following are step by step :.
1. In Citrix Receiver for XenClient, bring up a terminal window (CTRL-SHIFT-T) and enter the password you created during installation of XenClient.
2. Run the following command to enable access to remote files: set enable-ssh xec true
3 . Identify the IP address used by XenClient by clicking the Network icon and selecting Login Information .
4.1. Copy the image file from another computer to the XenClient system. In this example, I use the free program WinSCP (available here http://winscp.net/eng/download.php), but SCP program will work. Make sure the ISO file extension uses lowercase or it will not be visible in the GUI. For example, use XP.iso instead of XP.ISO.
4.2. Start WinSCP and connect to the XenClient system. The host name is the IP address determined in step 3. The username is root and the password is the same password that you used in step 1.
4.3. On the left side, navigate to the directory containing the ISO file. On the right side, go to the / Storage / isos.
4.4. Drag the ISO to / storage / isos to copy the file.
5. Once the file has been copied to the XenClient device, while focusing on Citrix Receiver for XenClient, press Ctrl-Q to refresh the user interface.
6.1. Create a new VM.
6.2. Click Add VM icon.
6.3. Select Install from drive.
6.4. Go through the wizard and select the last step Create VM & Install OS later .
7.1. Map of the ISO file to the VM:
7.2. Hover the VM you just created and click Details .
7.3. Click the Equipment tab.
7.4. Click Change .
7.5. Click the dropdown menu next to Tools CD and select the ISO that you imported.
7.6. Click Save .
8. When you start the virtual machine, it will boot to ISO.
9. Do not forget to raise the xc-tools.iso after you have finished installing the operating system by following step 7 and selecting xc-tools.iso from the menu. You will need the tools mapped to your VM to install the PV drivers in the guest OS.
