No More read-only LUNs PVS, Sanbolic Melio Offers Consolidation, scalability and performance for PVS HA -

Walking through the Citrix support forums last week, I came across an ad that was written by a Citrix client who had recently updated its Provisioning services ™ (PVS ™) farm version 5.6 SP1 to version 6.0 and was disappointed to discover the feature read-only LUNs PVS had been removed.

in his assignment, the individual said he had several PVS PVS servers in the farm and would allow PVS HA without having to replicate its vDisk among them. In other words, he did not create multiple LUNs (at least by a PVS server) and copy its vDisk them to ensure that all its servers could access vDisk, which is a prerequisite for PVS HA.

His argument, which is good, is that the vDisk replication between PVS servers is a waste of time and disk space. After all, every time he made a change to the content of one of its vDisk, it would have to copy the vDisk for each LUN on all other PVS servers. Not only it would be a hassle, it could also lead to incompatible versions vDisk heard by the PVS servers if a vDisk update was not copied to all the servers assigned to the broadcast. And why use valuable storage space just for vDisk store copies of the same again and again?

Rather than reproduce or copy vDisk between PVS servers every time he makes changes to them would introduce unnecessary data management overhead, he wanted to consolidate on a single vDisk volume to simplify image management, which has always been one of the main advantages of PVS in the first place!

Some suggestions were put to this individual, such as the use of deduplication with replication or sharing of files to reduce wasted storage space, but his answers to these outfits suggestions deserves all fronts ... even with deduplication, it still would not save the storage capacity as it would using a single LUN; and file sharing has two strikes against it right out of the gate: it introduces a single point of failure, which contradicts the whole point of PVS HA, and it would not match the performance provided by the storage network Fibre Channel

no other viable suggestions offered in this particular thread, the original question of the individual, "How can we reach PVS HA in a multi-server farm PVS without wasting time and storage?" , remained unanswered.

Fortunately for that person and for everyone who has ever asked that question, there is an answer - " Sanbolic Melio !" [1945002gestiondesdonnées]

Melio distributed software that dramatically simplifies data management and storage while improving application availability, scalability and performance, enabling organizations to achieve the best return on their application investments, server and storage. Melio is Citrix-Ready ™ certified for use with PVS (certification extends XenApp and XenDesktop ™ powered by PVS), works with all server and storage of industry standard equipment, and all SAN protocols (ie , iSCSI, Fibre Channel, Infiniband, etc.), and runs on physical and virtual machines (hosted by XenServer ™, Hyper-V ™ or vSphere ™).

in the heart of Melio is an advanced 64-bit cluster file system called (appropriately enough) "Melio FS" that allows multiple Windows servers to share access in reading and writing simultaneously to one or towns pools () of block-based storage. The storage formatted with Melio FS can be supplied from an external storage array on a storage area network (SAN) or from local disks (DAS) installed in the server hardware commodity, creating a storage "appliance" based on software that provides high-availability shared storage without the upfront costs or being associated with SAN storage.

Built on a symmetrical architecture, Melio FS is very elastic (read as "no single point of failure") with the added benefit of providing a linear improvement in performance as more servers are added to a cluster Melio . For the true scale business class, this unique architecture also enables seamless expansion of infrastructure, allowing more servers and storage resources to be added at any time without disruption of user productivity.

Using Melio, all vDisks can be stored on a single volume that can be accessed simultaneously by multiple PVS servers, allowing PVS HA vDisk for high availability and load balancing for improved performance. The result: a simplified management vDisk and maintenance, efficient use of storage resources and reduced storage costs. The best part - Melio is incredibly easy to install and use, allowing administrators to create flexible, scalable and highly available shared storage in minutes

So for this person and everyone tries to activate PVS HA without the hassle and warnings associated with replication of files or actions, the search is over! Sanbolic Melio is on ideal storage solution for PVS HA.
