Celebrate the New Year with New Citrix Receiver for Android, Windows, and Chromebook PlayBook! -

I hope you had a wonderful holiday and a happy new year! (For those of you die hard people who may be reading this post before the New Year, then I wish you a wonderful celebration!)

While you were out and I hope does not work our engineering team has been hard at work releasing major updates for a number of our Citrix Receiver distributions. Just a few weeks we started the season with a receiver update for Android (which I covered in a separate blog). The last week of December saw the release of Receiver for Windows 3.1, and the full version 1.0 versions of Receiver for Chromebook and Receiver for PlayBook. In the coming weeks, we will also update Receiver for iOS as well!

These are exciting times. This week also saw the release of Citrix CloudGateway 1.0! CloudGateway comes in two flavors - a free version that includes Express service Storefront and an Enterprise version that includes an application controller for integrating SaaS and management of the Web application delivered seamlessly through Citrix Receiver . (You can get more information here). This is important in that the Storefront service provides a new scalable enterprise ready receiver entire infrastructure that makes it easy and transparent to provide a store of enterprise applications to end users that integrates heterogeneous access from any device and capacity to "follow me" which makes it even easier for end users to install, configure and customize Receiver wherever they are and whatever device they use. Ultimately the CloudGateway infrastructure will provide capabilities that will once and for all for the tip of the receiver on the web interface for new and existing customers.

The Receiver updates for Windows, Android, Chromebook and iOS coming all support this new CloudGateway infrastructure to provide seamless Web and SaaS applications in the same way that XenDesktop users were accessing their Windows business applications. The integration of all applications in the managed company provisioned and accessible in the same transparent way by all users of any device is very powerful and, we believe, very convincing in this world of increasingly complex "app" . Soon we will add files and data, and mobile applications to further extend the solution CloudGateway receiver power on end point devices.

The updates to Citrix Receiver extend beyond support CloudGateway well. We improved, in some cases dramatically, the overall performance - just wait until the next receiver for iOS 5.5 customer! In addition, we had a little fine time to resolve the experience of the end user. As I have already blogged about, we released the XenApp 6.5 Mobile Optimization SDK to provide customers with the tools to optimize Windows virtualized applications to look and behave more like native mobile applications when access or Smartphones tablets. We also exposed API to allow Windows applications to take advantage of capabilities unique native devices such as cameras, GPS and accelerometers for example. (You can get more information about the new SDK from here.)

Something else you will hear much more about the coming months is support for a new tablet optimized Windows desktop. We heard from many customers that a Windows desktop - delivered via VDI or hosted shared - does not really work all that well for end users on an iPad or Android tablet. The Windows user interface was designed and optimized for a large screen and the cursor controlled by a mouse after all. So we will support a user interface on a traditional Windows user interface that provides a cleaner interface with larger buttons (for big fingers) and easier to get to the "Start" menu. I just shot some videos on this new tablet UI optimized for YouTube which will be published shortly - and I'll link from here as soon as it is displayed - so you can see for yourself how dramatically better a full Windows user experience will work from a tablet.

Thank you for your interest and stay tuned for what we believe is a revolutionary year for desktop and application virtualization in 2012!
