When starting to turn a desktop computer, many people get stuck in one of the first decisions: What type of virtual desktop dois- I implement? (VDI, RDS, local VM, etc.) There are so many options for both use cases we analyze our users stuck until we confuse us more. The problem is that we try to start treating all of these exceptions. We let all these unique use case and confuse Stall our efforts. That's why when you make the office processing; you must start with the case easier to use. This is not because we can not make the case difficult to use; it is that the project team, you need to show progress. And the easiest use cases allow you to show success quickly.
Honestly, when looking at the case easier to use, it's a pretty safe bet to go with a shared desktop model (RDS / XenApp). Although many do not speak much on the shared desktop model because everyone is so focused on VDI, it is an approach that has proven itself. In fact, I remember working with an organization that was in 1998 workstations on the predecessor of RDS / XenApp, which was called Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Services Edition with MetaFrame 1.0. And guess what ... It worked
Of course, you can find lots of information about the way the shared desktop model is more scalable than the office staff (VDI) model, but one aspect that is still missing is Comfort.
Oh my God, one of the words "marketing" right? Yes, but here's what I mean.
If I make a personal desktop (VDI), I will get a Windows 7 desktop with applications and it will work. If I make a shared office (RDS / XenApp published desktop), I get a desktop "Windows 7" with applications and it will work. However, I get something else. I can also access applications seamlessly, where desktop interface is hidden from the user view (some call it a published application or applications without welding)
Many of you users of XenApp formerly think, big deal. We have done this for centuries. Correct, we have, but now we have people trying to access desktops / applications tablets and phones. On my iPad or Android phone, I first had access to my personal desktop (VDI). It worked, but it was uncomfortable and I've heard people say that it was against nature. I agree. It was too difficult to launch applications. If I am trying to launch an application for the iPad, so I want to first go to the Windows 7 desktop? Hmmm, I do not know. I just want to start an application. If I start with the shared desktop (RDS / XenApp), I can choose between a complete desktop and a single application, while the office staff (VDI) requires me to use the full desktop.
When starting office transformation, first shared office (RDS / XenApp). Work through the user groups who can work in a shared office environment. Once these groups are complete, we move on exceptions, which are probably less than you think. Stay tuned for more
