Citrix XenClient 2.1 released, download it now attend the webinar to learn more! -

In our show Synergy Barcelona in October, we announced XenClient 2.1 is an update XenClient 2 that includes a number of new improvements and amazing products. Today I am pleased to announce that it is officially released and available for download.

Citrix XenClient is the next evolution in the local virtual desktop that takes a fundamentally different approach to client virtualization leading to rapid stunning performance, safe isolation and rock solid stability. It extends the performance, flexibility and security of desktop virtualization to laptop users -. And can even run multiple local virtual desktops on a single laptop while ensuring effective control of IT with the protection of corporate data and integrated management of the simplified Windows image

you can read about all the latest features below and I would also invite you to attend our upcoming master class webinar is a deep technical dive into XenClient 2.1, more read Angela's blog to find out what XenClient our partners say. 2.1

The following are highlights of what's new in this version:

  • SIMPLIFIED WINDOWS MANAGEMENT dE IMAGE with dynamic stratification provides an easier, more reliable, cost-effective, and most of the management of system updates with minimal impact to end users more control and agility for IT. Today, IT managers typically deploy an initial Windows
image to employees who then often add their own applications and changes. This causes a shift of the computer image initially deployed and can introduce conflicts and incompatibilities of applications of the system that can lead to increased costs by triggering more calls to the help desk. The new dynamic layering functionality XenClient changes this paradigm by ensuring that the defined IT pictures are applied on an ongoing basis. This can significantly reduce helpdesk break / fix calls. With this new feature, an IT administrator can now simply apply the changes they want a Ingle image in the data center and sent automatically to their XenClient devices. This feature also reduces the risk of making changes to the desktop environment. If there are problems with an update, the dynamic image management capability can simply undo the change - something difficult to do today in traditional environments. This also can reduce disruptions and performance degradations to users when updates. Rather than living an often lengthy local installation process, the changes are downloaded in the background and applied to the user's system in the time it takes to restart Windows.
  • XenClient NOW LOCALIZED , which allows end users around the world to live a more engaging and familiar experience when using the product. This release introduces customer lateral support for German, French, Spanish, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. Citrix has seen tremendous traction with XenClient in international markets, which reaffirms our commitment to deliver capabilities our customers need to expand their use of the solution on a global basis.
  • ON-THE-AIR UPGRADES now makes updates simple and secure level of XenClient Synchronizer software from one or another Web server. This will enable end users to upgrade to XenClient 2.1 without booting the CD and means that IT can easily deploy new versions and patches in their environment from a central location.

And if you want more details, read on!

  • SET IMAGE dynamic allows the Synchronizer for XenClient to provide an image in layers that are dynamically assembled at run on a local XenClient system. This technology allows a single image management in the data center of a dynamic virtual local desktop computer running on many systems XenClient.
  • DELTA UPDATES IMAGE allows the Synchronizer for XenClient to deliver intelligently only the changes between versions Windows image to a XenClient system. This system also allows administrators to roll forward multiple versions at once. This ensures that the dynamic virtual local workstations on XenClient settings are moved to the latest Windows desktop administrator defined automatically and efficiently.
  • SYSTEM UPGRADES FAST allows a minimum fine of downtime when updating Windows dynamic images. The updates are transferred in the context of systems XenClient Synchronizer for XenClient via. Once the update has been delivered locally, the next time the end user starts
their system, they are immediately moved to the latest version of the Windows image delivered IT. Even significant changes such as new versions of Office or Windows service packs are applied in the time it takes to restart Windows, giving users an immediate productivity.
  • LOCKDOWN AUTOMATIC IMAGE ensure that it only approved changes and approved applications are installed on a dynamic local virtual desktop image running on XenClient. changes in the user outside of their user data and profile are automatically purged from the system ensures a clean and consistent environment at startup.
  • WINDOWS IMAGE ROLLBACK allows the cancellation for Windows button. This feature allows administrators to rollback to a previous version of Windows image in the time it takes to restart Windows. This reduces the risk of making changes to an environment because they can easily be canceled.
  • SELF-SERVICE INSTALL allows end users to customize their environment by installing approved IT applications via Citrix Receiver for Windows. Citrix Receiver gives users an easy to use integrated showcase for Windows, web and SaaS applications.
  • ENHANCE RELIABILITY through corrections and improvements to a number of problems identified after the original release, such as 3D graphics stability, USB support virtualized, improved the management of multi- partition Windows images by the Synchronizer, and support for connecting to the Directory Synchronizer active systems with nonstandard OR structures.

as you can see Citrix continues to rapidly deliver new features and enhancements to support our customers in expanding deployments of technology. If you have not yet tried XenClient, there has never been a better time to dive and experience the power, performance, security, and without IT concern it delivers. CC 5.0 Enhancements: Repeater App Traffic Quick Report (NEW) - Part1 -

Part 1- Repeater App Traffic Group against [1945006!]

support NetScaler Command Center for quick reports Branch Repeater brought a lot of value to help visualize the level of performance factors with graphics for several BR units on a page. CC 4.x supported System Repeater Repeater class service and traffic Repeater ICA against the groups. Now CC 5.0 beta version supports 3 other groups. These are Repeater App Traffic ¸ Repeater QoS Stats and Repeater Stats Link .

Before discussing the functionality of the data surveyed quick reports, we will first outline the steps to configure the quick reports for new groups against. We presented a Repeater App Traffic against the group as an example.

We will use this example to explain the basic structure of the configuration of the counter group. Now select Device Family as a repeater, select Devices Name you want to run the report, select the desired meter Group , select against of this specific group, select the proceeding and at the end select the desired time period for graphics and click Show graph . Instance means classifiers application if App Repeater traffic. Otherwise, Stats Link in the instances of the group will total links and repeaters QOS stats group will list the traffic policies under the case.

Now let's walk-through Traffic App repeater new group counter groups against CC introduced in version 5.0.

group against Repeater App Traffic

Branch Repeater uses application definitions to separate traffic and application protocols. The group counter identifies only those applications through the graphic links on the basis of several application-based counters. Counters are listed as follows:

METERS : volume

  • App sent (bits-per - dry)

    • the total volume of traffic sent App across all links, measured in 1000-bytes. When a byte is 8-bit.

  • App received volume (bits per second)
    • The total volume of receivedon of total traffic ALLthe links, measured in 1000 -octets
  • App packets sent
    • the total number of traffic sent packetsof on all the links related to this app.
  • App received packets
    • The total number of traffic packets sent on any links related to this app.
  • App fell sent volume (bits per second)
    • total traffic app was not sent on the link because of QoS threshold, in 1000 -octets. QoS threshold is the limit of the bandwidth set on the links.
  • App lowered the volume received (bits per second)
    • The total received App traffic increased from the bond because of threshold QoS, in 1000 bytes. QoS threshold is the limit of the bandwidth set on the links.
  • packet App fell sent
    • The total number of unsent the link because the QoS threshold packets. QoS threshold is the limit of the bandwidth set on the links.
  • App dropped packets received
    • The total number of received packets striped link due to the QoS threshold. QoS threshold is the limit of the bandwidth set on the links.

This is a preview of the graphic on the application sent and received traffic volumes in bits per second.

Hopefully this gives you a good idea about these counters and full counter group and simply states how the performance charts on the App traffic on one interface.

the two blogs, I'll be covering the other two new quick reports BR, Repeater Repeater Link QoS statistics stats counter groups.

He Said She Said - Intro to Lee - Part 1 -

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I have always found great places to Blog Post give you thoughts about fact and fiction. When I read technical blogs I just want to see the facts and opinions of potential how and why I would use certain products and feature sets. That is why I am writing my blogs, I want to set the record straight on misconceptions and help give ideas on how to use the products and the features of my experiences. I can even run into some how-to techniques, but why should I do when you can see Citrix-TV (http://www.citrix.com/tv/).

My name is Lee Collison , an engineer lead systems on Citrix systems, Inc. public sector team. I love working in the public sector because I feel I am offering solutions that help our troops and government and that means a lot of the staff for me since I served in the US Marine Corps. After the army, I went to Computer Learning Center and started my IT career as a technician of computer hardware and Novell admin, who later moved to Microsoft, Citrix and VMware technologies. Over the last 15+ years in the industry, I was lucky enough to have experienced many different scenarios, as an IT consultant, system integrator, IT Manager, "Architect", public speaker and sales. Certifications have been a big part of my life as well during this period, including: MCSE NT, 03 MCTIP - Virtualization, Apple - CPHA, VMware VCP 3-4, VCA-DT, Citrix CCEA, CCA (XD, XS, XA), RSA security, EMC Proven certs professional security, Symantec. Certs too many sales, including EMC, Citrix, Cisco, VMware, Symantec and others smaller. As I get new certs I'll post because they are hard work to achieve.

Now that you know a little more about me, I want to post on what I call "He said She Said." I recently spent a lot of time to clear the air for my clients about some misconceptions they have been feeding my biggest competitor. the funny thing is, I sold this solution for four years and I know how to sell as good or if not better than the way they do . they are very good to redirect your questions so that you do not know if you got the correct answer or not and say they like the manufactured myths or twisting words around in a way that builds the . misconception

in the coming days, I will write the parts 2-4 of my first blog topic:

  • He said, She said - multiple Consoles
  • He said, She said - Complex / Difficult
  • He said, She said. - expensive

And as ever to provide comments

XenDesktop 5.5 HDX optimizations and best practices -

When deploying XenDesktop 5.5 would not it be great to have the best practices and Citrix Consultants design recommendations in the field? This is what is available in a new white paper Citrix Council detailing the new features and enhancements available in HDX XenDesktop 5.5.

As one of the contributors to this project, I was happy to see what a difference XenDesktop 5.5 made at the flash reading and Windows Media videos over the WAN. To validate the recommendations for new HDX features a WAN emulator was used to simulate different scenarios, ranging from a high-latency connection to a DSL trans-Pacific branch. The main objective of XenDesktop 5.5 was to provide a better user experience over the WAN and it definitely succeeds in this regard. A good example is the huge improvement in Flash Redirection on the WAN, a feature that previously required the implementation of the Flash Player on the server. Now the scalability of Flash Redirection server benefits, which offloads flash rendered to the user's device are available on both LAN and WAN connections. Read the white paper in its entirety here "Best practices and recommendations for Citrix Receiver 3 and HDX technology with XenDesktop 5.5"

is a list of HDX features that have been tested extensively in the context of this paper

  • Windows Media Redirection: playing the video was both on the LAN and WAN has improvedinXenDesktop 5.5 because of its ability to adapt to todynamically available bandwidth and intelligent drop frames while maintaining a synchronized playback with audio priority
  • flash Redirection: .. a new version ofFlash Redirection is included, which improves performance over the WAN including support for Linux devices (initially Ubuntu and Fedora)
  • Aero Redirection :. HDX RichGraphics Aero Redirection is a new feature of XenDesktop 5.5 that offers signature Aero in Windows 7 experience in a XenDesktop virtual desktop
  • RealTime: This implies experience video conferencing in a virtual office. Consult various test scenarios employees using Microsoft Lync (Office Communicator) to document how the new features, such as UDP audio, to improve the overall user experience

10 Xen! (Part 1 of 3)

10 Xen! (Part 1 of 3) -

Happy New Year to all! As my first post of 2012 blog, I would like to wish everyone a very healthy year, prosperous and productive future. There are certainly some interesting technologies coming our way!

In this three-part blog series, I'll run through a XenDesktop environment setup / Basic POC at a high level with pointers on how to save time and streamline the process 'installation. First, let's take a look at the configuration of the hypervisor in this position with XenServer. Then we will examine the XenDesktop controller and install the components associated with two columns. Finally, we will conclude with the delivery of application in the last post using XenApp. So follow, post comments and share your own experiences with desktop virtualization configurations!

Why exactly am I called this series 10 Xen? Aside from the title sounds good, I hope to prove that the establishment of a basic XenDesktop environment can be accomplished in pieces that take 10 minutes or less. At Citrix, we strive to develop products that are both easy to install and configure and still provide professionals with the level of control they need to effectively integrate with their environment. It is a continuous effort to find the perfect balance with each new feature and option configuration.

So, let's begin! I will use the following hardware and software

Hardware:

HP ProLiant BL460c Server Blade
2x Dual-Core Xeon 3.33 GHz @
16GB RAM
500GB local storage
1 Gbit LAN

Software

XenServer 5.6 SP2
XenDesktop 5.5
XenApp 6.5
windows Server 08 R2 and windows 7 VM

to start, I need to install XenServer 5.6 SP2. I'm going with this version because it is the one recommended for XenDesktop 5.5 and Machine Creation Services. XenServer can essentially be installed in one of three ways: from CD / DVD media, USB flash drive, or from the network via PXE boot. I will install XenServer here from a USB flash drive of 1GB using the steps below

  1. Download XenServer 5.6 SP2 ISO Image
  2. Download and run PendriveLinux from http :. //www.pendrivelinux .com / universal-usb-installer easy-as-1-2-3 / to assist in the creation of the boot sector on the flash drive and writing the image
  3. Select "Try Unlisted Linux ISO (Old syslinux)" in the distribution of combo (use "Try Unlisted Linux ISO (New syslinux)" if installing XenServer 6.0)
  4. Browse to the image and XenServer ISO then let PendriveLinux write on the flash drive

Note: I chose to manually install from a flash drive, because it is a fast and efficient method. Installing XenServer from a CD / DVD can take twice as long and network installation is not convenient for me with a single server. If you have a standard set of installation options XenServer and / or many servers, though, it might be wise for you to install XenServer automated manner on the network by PXE boot. Have a look at the following links:

http://blog.vhowto.info/2010/09/26/installation-of-xenserver-5-6/

http: // blog.vhowto.info/2010/10/02/xenserver-5-6-unattended-installation/

Ok, so my bootable flash drive in hand, I can now go through the install XenServer. Most of the installation options are trivial (EULA, media control, password, networking, time zone, etc.); however, it is important to note the ability to enable thin provisioning. This should be enabled, which is the default, to configure local storage repository as EXT3 versus LVM and save local storage space. It is also a requirement if we decide later to use the IntelliCache function of XenDesktop Machine Creation Services with shared storage to cache data locally on the VM XenServer and improve performance of the virtual machine while reducing the use network. See pages 21 and 22 of XenServer Installation Guide 5.6 SP2 http://support.citrix.com/servlet/KbServlet/download/27193-102-6607/installation.pdf for additional details on XenServer and IntelliCache.

The installation time took about five minutes for me - less than ten years! Then I connected to the server with iLO to check status and obtain the IP address. Then I connected to XenServer XenCenter to begin importing my standard OS models. My templates are stored on shared storage and include the latest Windows updates, XenServer Tools, and SysPrep application. More information on creating Windows VM models is available on page 28 of the XenServer 5.6 SP2 Installation Guide virtual machine http://support.citrix.com/servlet/KbServlet/download/27189- 102-6606 / guest.pdf.

In the next segment, I'll watch the XenDesktop components installation on a Windows Server 08 R2 VM basis. Until then ...

IPv6 06/06 - Beginning of the end for IPv4

IPv6 06/06 - Beginning of the end for IPv4 -

06/06 - IPv6 is the official day when some large companies and ISPs make their transition to IPv6. Question has never been whether to make a transition to IPv6 but when and the time has come. Among the companies that show their commitment to IPv6 day are - Microsoft, Google, Facebook and Cisco. And among mobile IPv6 service providers Free Telecom, AT & T, Time Warner and Comcast. This does not mean that IPv4 is disabled -. It only means that now IPv6 with IPv4 will be used for production deployments

This was waiting to happen after decades of struggle between IPv4 trying to stretch her life and IPv6 is preparing for the big stage . Miss IPv4 address space is the most obvious reason why we need to move to IPv6, which offers virtually unlimited addresses for all our needs. Necessity gave birth to IPv6 - but decades of experience with IPv4 assured that IPv6 was designed to provide many other benefits. Some of the benefits of the transition to IPv6 are:

  1. simplified routing - better organized routing tables and the smaller ones are faster routing and better
  2. Treatment effective packages - simplified -tête IPv6 makes the treatment effective packages
  3. security - integrated support for IPSec
  4. new applications - unique IP addresses for each evaluation criterion provides the opportunity for many innovative applications
  5. facilitates network management - features such as address auto-configuration easy life brands for network administrators

despite all the benefits that come with IPv6 all organizations have an interest in this movement. Some key factors forcing organizations to make a transition to IPv6 are:

  1. To ensure connectivity IPv6 only clients
  2. To allow access to employees and partners on IPv6
  3. Do not be left behind when the world is moving forward
  4. Leverage technology to simplify and secure networks

now, the big question is how to make this move? Several technologies have been developed to meet the different needs of different networks as they plan their transition to IPv6. service providers, content providers and enterprises have difficulty embracing IPv6. Comcast chose to go dual-stack to provide IPv6 connectivity to customers, but Free Telecom selected 6rd. In addition, continuing to support IPv4 clients means that IPv4 and IPv6 will coexist for the foreseeable future.

So, what are the various transition technologies? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Yet there are still technologies in the process of stretching the life of IPv4. In this series of blog IPv6, we will explore various technologies and their use cases

Some "6" number: 6. e day of the 6 e months was selected as the IPv6 day. Not enough 6 - check this out: 06 + 06 + 12 = 24; 2 + 4 = 6

Available exclusively to current partners, the program is a global business, conducted in -person the Citrix campus in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Santa Clara, CA. The course led by an instructor guides students through all of the basic design and troubleshooting Citrix XenServer key products such as XenDesktop, XenApp and Netscaler to complex integration, optimization and scalability, using the same tools, best practices, the framework and methods that Citrix uses to train our technical staff.

the course graduates receive a Citrix Certified Integration Architect (CCIA) certification, the highest and most prestigious Citrix credentials available. We would encourage anyone with experience in Windows networks and Microsoft Active Directory, and Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA) XenDesktop 5 certification, XenApp 6 and XenServer 5 or 6 for Citrix Academy and CCIA certification of their program training for 2012.

for more specific logistics program information, including upcoming dates, venues, agenda, programs, registration information and costs, learn more CitrixAcademy. com.

In addition to Citrix Academy in January 13 e we announced and published our 2012 Partner Enablement Calendar for the Americas. This program consists of over 0 events organized in every major metro in the Americas.

These toll free 1 day workshops cover a wide variety of sales, demand generation and technical subjects. If you are looking for technical content, you will find a number of workshops covering everything from XenDesktop Netscaler, all without cost for current levels of all partners.

I am particularly pleased to announce that, for the first time, we will provide sales training to our partners. These trainings 1.5 days taking advantage of the same company, same instructors and even content that Citrix uses annually to train our internal sales teams. This means that partners will be able to use the same language sales, sales techniques and sales tools that our sales representatives use. I'm really looking forward to this will create alignment between the two groups.

I invite you to connect to and view MyCitrix the activation schedule, geographical area, and intend to join us in 2012 for the best training partner in the industry calendar.

NetScaler Diagnostics: Support Tools

NetScaler Diagnostics: Support Tools -

Last week, we discussed these excellent troubleshooters that can act as savior in cases of medium / climbing (/ blogs / 2012 / 01/27 / high-diagnostictroubleshooting -utilities-on-NetScaler /). The focus this week is on technical support tools that we have in the diagnostic module.

Many times, when you open a support case, the first thing you would be asked to provide "technical support" file. What is this file and how you get it? unique place where you can do all this is the "Diagnostics" page on the user interface. the tools of technical support have many options and let us walk in important here

Generate support files :. This option will generate the support file that collects all relevant data for debugging and analysis This file generally includes:.

  • Newnslog file "/ var / NSLog / "
  • dmesg file" / NSLog / / var "
  • file-based process" / var / core / "
  • core database files to "/ var / crash /"
  • FLES messages to "/ var / log /"
  • Ns.log files in "/ var / log /"
  • of other user process log "/ var / log /"
  • configuration file "/ nsconfig /"
  • user monitor modules "/ nsconfig / monitors /"
  • important configuration file "/ etc /"
  • .recovery file "/ flash /"
  • Various command output from "shell"
  • Nsapimgr release of "shell"
  • objects downloaded from "/ var / download /"
  • files Profiler logs "/ var / nsproflog /"
  • Sync files newspaper "/ var / nssynclog /"

surprised to the amount of data collected :). This is to ensure that you are not prompted for individual files repeatedly slowing down the whole process. Run the utility and easy to get all the data in the single zip file and download it from the same window.

Apart from these files and data, in some cases, you need to take some living traces to debug the issue and that is the next available utility:

Start new trace: This utility helps you to collect the trace of live NetScaler network. We have seen that many of those of the connection level or latency kinds of questions require a trace file for debugging. Collecting trace is simple but collecting the right way is important to help the analysis. NetScaler can run multiple Gbps of traffic in the direct environment of collection and track with GB of data is not good. Most trace analysis tools die opening the file and you are asked to provide smaller trace files. It is important to collect relevant flow in the trace file that needs attention or we can spend several days go to the capture. The utility helps you here to collect trace file right and you just need to choose the right options

  • Package Size :. always make sure that you change the default packet size of 164 to the size you need otherwise keep 0 which means we collect parcel of all sizes on the wire

  • duration: this is very important to collect short for effective analysis files

  • trace file format: this will allow you to switch between "nstrace" and "tcpdump". Our guideline is to gather in "nstrace 'format as keep specific information intact NetScaler

  • Expression Filter: This is of enormous importance because it allows you to pin point the fundamental problem area. You can add phrases to the filter. The qualifiers of expression could be
    • Source IP
    • Source Port
    • Destination IP
    • Destination Port
    • IP address
    • Port
    • Type of Service
    • rest time
    • State
    • service name
    • virtual server name
    • Log ID
    • Interface
    • VLAN

These are a lot of options to make the filter and much more effective you can do Boolean calculations on these. There is additional option for tracing the filtered peer connection traffic. This is very useful when you specify only one source IP as the filter, but also need to see the server side connections for this IP source original client connections

  • Capture Mode :. there are lots of these modes which also helps you to collect the trace is specific to the problem scenario.

This section also provides other options to download the files and trace individual basis. The other interesting option it provides is launching "Trace Back" on a live system.

You must provide the files of the core and basis to run gdb utility to collect back trace. This also comes in handy when downloading huge database file takes time and look in plain tracing can provide engineering clues about the nature of the accident.

Overall it is a lot of rich tools and utilities provided to make your work simpler :)

Tunnel security - Active Directory Certificate Services

Tunnel security - Active Directory Certificate Services -

Say you want to accelerate MAPI encrypted traffic / CIFS signed with BR6.0? Well, first you'll need to attach the appliance "server side" in your area (see the guide section 4.19 of the user), then you'll need a traffic tunnel between your repeater units . You have your two devices BR ready to go, an encryption license installed -. All you're missing are certificates

CTX128920 take you through the process from opening the key store to establish the secure tunnel between the devices. At the bottom of the article you will also find the commands needed to create certificates using OpenSSL (http://www.openssl.org/).

Let's also say you put in the time and efforts to get a new shiny Windows certification authority goes, so of course you'll want to use the certificates it issues!

Get the CA certificate

First you must ensure that your Repeaters trusted certs issued by your CA to obtain a CERT CA:

DER will ...

client and server certificate

then we need a client certificate: come home CertSrv, "Request a certificate "and then to the advanced certificate request

There are three parameters that you need to change

  • name
  • certificate type
  • Mark keys as exportable

the name itself is not important, but it will help you find the right certificate later. The other information is irrelevant ... leave the fields blank if you want.

Make sure you select the right type:

And - most importantly - check the

Click on the submit button, then just install the certificate.

Now, repeat the process with the only difference in the selection of the type "server authentication certificate."

Open the MMC, add Certificates snap them to "My account", find the certs in Personal Certificates> (here's where the name came to application is very convenient if you have many more certs in the same store).

export them, making sure that you export the private key as well.

Finish setup

You should now have three files, one CA certificate (* .cer ), a server cert and a client certificate (both * .pfx) that include their private keys. When you import as shown in http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX128920, make sure you select "Combined Certificate / Private Key Enter."
Import the CA cert for both tutors and the Client certificate and cert server to another. Configure the remaining tunnel parameters secured by the article, then sit back and admire your achievement proudly.

Cheers,
Chris

If you are thinking of adopting desktop virtualization, two choices natural to you, e XenDesktop VDI-in-a-Box. So comment choisir? Should it be a question of cost, the difference in size of the environment, ou on Other Features factoring? Kumar Goswami, our product manager pour VDI-in-a-Box, briefly discusses this topic on a blog at the following address: / blogs / 2011/12/01 / citrix vdi-in-a-box-V5 is now-here-% E2% 80% A6-give-it-a-go /. Whatever, Whenever, Wherever - The new workplace Anywhere You -

The way we work is changing and there is not the Stop. As organizations seek to maximize agility and business productivity while ensuring that they can attract and retain the best talent possible, Workshifting adoption continues to increase. In the PC era yesterday, workshifters were the exception to a predominantly labor offices centered. In the era of cloud today, they are increasingly assuming.

But what really Workshifting lead and how to offer a more flexible work environment benefit both organizations and individuals?

Workshifting Well, in its simplest form, is the labor movement for the most optimal places, time and resources. trends in the workplace, including the consumerization of IT and the increasing adoption of Bring Your Own Device (BYO), continue to drive adoption Workshifting. But how many are really enlightened organizations adopt Workshifting? Well, according to a recent survey conducted by global workshifting Citrix, 93 percent of organizations have declared their intention to provide flexible work environments in 2013.

Workshifting Why so hot? Primarily, it is because workshifting allows people who work from home or mobile employees to work at any time, any place and on the device of their choice. Many IT decision makers are well aware of these benefits, and our survey, 71 percent said they use new workshifting policies to allow employees to spend work time, places, and devices that work best for them. The best part of Workshifting is that the benefits are not limited to the employee. In fact, they extend the company itself in a number of key ways

Lower costs, high-end people, the service great customer -.? What's not to love

  • reduced operating costs - In our survey, 68 percent of organizations believe that this has was key. Real estate, travel and labor costs can all be minimized through optimized workshifting policy
  • Attract and retain top talent -. People have grown to expect flexibility. Having the ability to work in the location of their choice is a prerequisite for many employees. Organizations can also differentiate themselves from competitors and reduce recruitment costs if they allow workshifting.
  • Increasing labor pool- Organizations can use previously difficult to reach people such as parents with obligations family or people with restrictions on the time they can spend in the office. In other words, workshifting allows companies to hire the best people, regardless of where they are physically located
  • to better serve customers -. Fifty-one percent of IT decision makers principal noted that the deployment of workers closest key customers assured a better experience of customer service, more consistent.

Shower people with love ...

  • The work / life balance -A happy workforce is a productive workforce - workshifting allows people to choose when they work on the basis of balancing personal and professional commitments rather than nine -to-five hours
  • Improve flexibility -. workshifting provides people the opportunity to choose the preferred time, place and device for their work. By adapting their environment to their work style or body clock, people can dramatically improve personal productivity
  • increased personal productivity -. There is nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment. 64 percent of respondents cited increased productivity as a common goal.

Workshifting is now a practical proposition for all types of organizations. high speed internet access, wireless 3G / 4G and mobile computing devices such as smartphones, laptops and tablets allow people to be productive outside the traditional office environment. At the base of this work trend is an important technology trend - desktop virtualization. It allows companies and staff to do more with less. Companies must not persuasion: more than 9 out of 10 organizations (91 percent) use of desktop virtualization plan in 2013 and they are already the benefits, including:

  • The Power " say yes "to a workforce increasingly mobile with access to the universal device
  • lower costs through a centralized IT delivery model for all positions working and applications
  • secure by design infrastructure cases that controls access and protects data
  • integrated in the continuity of the business by providing 24/7 access for all users, even in emergencies

so that businesses and organizations around the globe race to develop their own plans workshifting they should feel secure in knowing they are not alone. Basic technologies to enable a workforce increasingly distributed are also available, but if they want to differentiate themselves from their competitors - they better crackin '! :-)

Connection Multiplexing in NetScaler

6:01 PM Add Comment
Connection Multiplexing in NetScaler -

When the user opens a Web page, the browser sends several requests to the Web server for the various components of the resulting page in many connections between the browser and the server. Each connection to the web server is usually a short-term connection and puts overhead connection management on web servers. Additionally, technologies like AJAX is based on maintaining multiple connections between the browser and the server. Each connection consumes server resources -. Memory, CPU, bandwidth, etc., thus reducing the server's ability to serve new clients

1.1 HTTP allows a browser sends multiple requests on a persistent connection to a server, eliminating some overhead . But content providers disable this feature because many long
lived many client sessions can consume a lot of resources on the server and can lead to DoS for other clients.

TCP multiplexing is a technique that allows the reuse of existing TCP connections. Each configuration of the TCP connection and removal is a head on both servers and NetScaler. By establishing connections with the server once and use them to serve multiple client requests, NetScaler helps fastest time from servers and improving response capacity.

In NetScaler, TCP multiplexing connection works as follows:

  1. NetScaler maintains reuse connection pool - a pool of active connections with servers that can be used to process new customer requests
  2. When a client request is received, NetScaler checks for an available connection in the pool reuse
  3. If a connection is available in the recycle pool it is used to send the customer's request and get data from the server
  4. If a connection is not available in the recycling pool, NetScaler creates a new connection to the selected server
  5. in both cases, once the client request is served, the connection is returned to the reuse pool to serve future requests for the same or another customer

It is important note that multiple applications are not sent simultaneously on the server-side connection. In other words server side connections are used to send requests sequentially and after serving each request connections are provided to reuse the pool. Another interesting aspect of the multiplex connection is only to serve multiple requests from the same client, several server-side connections from the reuse pool can be used.

While multiplexing is done at the TCP again it is not applicable to all types of services supported over TCP. NetScaler supports connection multiplexing for

  1. HTTP - Multiple requests from several customers are sent on the same connection with the server
  2. SSL - avoids CPU intensive key exchange for each new connection
  3. DataStream - several client-side applications are made on the same server-side connection

NetScaler provides configuration parameters (such maxconn and maxreq) to control the use of multiplexing limiting the number of requests can be sent on a single server connection to each level of service or to disable the function globally. HTTP profile also provides levers to control how the multiplexing should behave for HTTP services.

Best Practices Document for XenDesktop and XenApp - Now Available -

When you are at the starting line of a new XenDesktop or XenApp implementation road can seem quite daunting. But the good news is that most projects have much in common and there are many good practices that can be used in almost all projects. The problem is, many people do just once, so how do you build your best practices kit before you need it? That's where Citrix Consulting comes. We have developed a whitepaper on best practices to help you reach the finish line of your next implementation project.

The new XenDesktop and XenApp reference guide of best practices brings together more than 60 pages of good practice covering a wide range of fields from user equipment. Thomas Berger and I developed the White Paper on the basis of our experience and that of our colleagues Citrix consulting, design and XenDesktop and XenApp solutions deployment. We spent a lot of time researching, creating and defining a list of best practices that can be used in 80% or more projects and we hope to guide you in your next deployment. The following list provides an example of the best practices discussed:

  1. restart schedule for XenApp servers
  2. When dedicate roles XenApp data collector area
  3. implications provisioned XenApp servers on the redundant license server
  4. That common workstations must be restarted logoff
  5. What must be saved
  6. deployment policy patch
  7. XenServer pool size recommended when using MCS / PVS
  8. CPU usage and memory overcommit
  9. when the "Optimize for XenApp 'parameter must be used in XenServer
  10. whether Provisioning services should be expanded / Out

where appropriate, we have also provided links to Citrix, Microsoft and VMware / white posts blog books so you can dig deeper for more information.

We all know that technology is changing at an exponential rate and it can be difficult to keep up with all the latest developments within the industry. Which is identified as a best practice today may not be tomorrow. That is why we will regularly update this white paper to keep current best practices and useful

We also want to benefit from your experience -. Please join the discussion by adding your own best practices or recommendations for the future best practices on a particular subject in the comments section.

What best practices allowed to get to the finish line?

I want to take this opportunity to thank Daniel Feller Nicholas Rintalan Dan Allen , Peter David, Dimitrios Samorgiannidis Rich Meesters Michael Palesch , George Prado and Chase Wright to contribute to the list of best practices. I also want to thank Ron Kraft and Martin Zugec for detailed comments on the White Paper

The value of mentors

The value of mentors -

This past Thursday and Friday, the Citrix conference center at our headquarters in Silicon Valley hosted the second annual BlogHer Entrepreneurs Conference. This event is designed for innovative women who want to start something; if their goal is to hit on their own with a brilliant idea, or to bring an entrepreneurial approach to innovation within a company.

More than 170 women from across the United States, Canada and Mexico met to networking, expert panels, and mentoring sessions. I was delighted to have the opportunity to mentor and participate in a panel on hiring as part of the event.

This is the mentoring aspect of the program that makes a unique conference and adds considerable value. Based on the interests and objectives, experienced women in leadership roles are paired with women seeking feedback on their business plans, ideas and concepts. The experience made me think about my first mentor. I had just arrived in Silicon Valley costs of grad school and my manager introduced me with the opportunity to have a mentor. Believe it or not, I'm actually a little insulted. I thought, "I know everything! What do I need a mentor? I already have a manager, I do not need a second. "I quickly changed my look after my first conversation with Joe, my new mentor. I visited it was something very different. My mentor was someone I could have very open and frank conversations with my skills, ambitions, workplace politics, and all that was in my mind. no matter what I said, I knew I would not be judged and our conversations were always in the strictest confidentiality. my relationship with Joe, now being more than 12 years, was one of the most valuable both professionally and personally.

Living in Silicon Valley, we often take for granted the availability of mentors tech like Joe who many years of experience in the field. the BlogHer conference promotes the opportunity for people across North America. high-tech big business mentors such as Google, Electronic Arts, Ernst & Young and Citrix participated . Several mentees commented that they never have connections to engage in intimate conversations with these experts, if there were not the BlogHer event. The conference provided the framework so that each mentor and mentee had an hour for an intimate chat one-on-one. Mentees said they have received tremendous value in frank conversation and detailed comments. A woman I chatted with said that the advice she received was invaluable and the real world experience of time trumped classes of business and innovation it had taken.

On the other hand, mentors came away inspired by the wonderful and creative ideas that women entrepreneurs had put on the table. I was inspired by the woman I chatted with who had the courage to leave her job partner track at a large company of five tips to follow his dream and start a tech blog.

In addition to the mentoring sessions, eight panels experts were presented as part of the conference. A wide variety of attractive subjects for entrepreneurs were covered, including hiring, sales, creative bootstrapping and social commerce. I appreciated the level of interactivity and the discussion that took place under the panels -. Real stories were shared and posed pertinent questions, which has great value for the participants

If you can not join the event BlogHer this year, check out some pictures of Danielle Tsi .

this was my first introduction to the BlogHer community and I am impressed! I am already looking forward to participating in next year's event.

Rainmaker project is now available in the Cloud Provider Pack! -

Last week, we announced the availability of Cloud Provider Pack. One of the key technologies in this pack is the app orchestration technology (developed under the project codename Rainmaker)

So what the application orchestration provide

simplified farm management Just create your guest XenApp session pools and pools of XenApp controllers - tasks to join
them to manage across multiple capabilities.? XenApp will automatically

Configuring multi-tenant [ Support for different types of insulation - session-based, and the firm based on a / office based on per-server app

Application Setup and Quick office: Tired of running the 10-step wizard XenApp Publishing app? App orchestration finds most of the information of the application (app-name, icon, command line, the working directory, etc.) from a XenApp session host, saving you from having to enter all this information .

management Web interface: App orchestration automatically configure Web Interface servers to point to the correct farms based on the level of the desired tenant isolation, any when a new farm / tenant is introduced into the system

. Easier Patching armed XenApp session : When creating a new version of a host XenApp session, this new technology allows drainage gradually automate tasks users of older version to newer servers, no downtime. or manual intervention

configuration of the desired state: All configuration is done using the principles of the desired state. This allows you to specify complex configuration in seconds without having to worry about sequencing things in the right order - app orchestration takes care of that for you

Tenant Management: You can to define. Tenants in the system, their isolation desired level and allocate resources to them directly. No more coming with naming patterns and crazy folder hierarchies to represent tenants in XenApp. In addition, the App Studio (Web console) enables you to easily view the resources (applications, desktops, session hosts XenApp farms, resources of the Web interface) which are allocated to tenants.

CloudPortal Integration Services Manager: applications and desktops that you are advertising are automatically available for self service consumption via hosted applications and office service in our panel control - allowing tenants to take out what they need

As you see with. the characteristics listed above, we fulfill our goal of providing a multi-tenant cloud simplified scale administration system we had committed to our CSP community more than a year back.

look forward to your comments !

Deliver secure enterprise mobility device without cloth - yes, it is possible

Deliver secure enterprise mobility device without cloth - yes, it is possible -

One issue that comes quite often with customers when it comes to the Citrix solution for mobility of business, receiver and CloudGateway! , Is how our solution supports "device wipe" and the feature "kill device". This interest in wiping technologies even the attention of Bloomberg News in a recent article Why Covet companies' Kill Switches . Specifically, many companies are concerned that the trend of BYOD in their organizations, how can they ensure that company information is always safe and does not leave the organization with a loss of the device or a departing employee.

There is a big question and we know many organizations are trying to determine the best way to handle this. I think it is first important to understand the magnitude of the problem ... and yes, it is great! According to Forrester Research, by 2016, 350 million employees will use smartphones - 0 million will bring their own. And that's just smartphones, and does not take into account the PC and tablets employees bring inside the four walls of their organization. That's a large number of devices and personal organizations must quickly determine their strategy to allow these devices.

In thinking about the problem, Citrix really tried to determine the objectives of these organizations when they implement BYOD. What we have determined by talking with customers and analysts is that these organizations seek to support BYOD, but realize that managing all these devices would be a nightmare. As with PCs, IT wants out of the user device management business because it is very expensive. Instead, they want to allow users to be productive on the device of their choice, while maintaining control and security across the enterprise content (applications and data) that users receive. This is our vision. Business users must have the ability to access all of their Windows companies, web, SaaS and mobile applications and their data from any device while at the same time, it should have full control of this content -. and nothing more

Citrix Receiver allows users, secure self-service access through a corporate application store (Citrix CloudGateway) to all their desktops, applications and data. This content follows users as they move between devices, in what I call the "Follow Enterprise -me." If an employee leaves the organization or a device is lost or stolen, full control of all enterprise content like everything was delivered via Citrix Receiver. iT can now remotely wipe all users of applications and business data to ensure that data does not get into bad hands while leaving the data intact personal users and applications. This is extremely important for reasons of disrupting users on their wiping devices. in many countries it is illegal and privacy laws to make these breaks . wiping action on a personal device Citrix brings the best of both worlds. - Full control over the content of the company, no access to personal information

I think Brian Katz, who as head of mobile engineering at Sanofi and helped select technologies that French drugmaker used to secure employees of the units, better said in comments to Bloomberg News on the protection of mobile devices: "Proceed with caution. Look for flexibility, look for ways to help and give your users, [and] do the work while protecting your assets. It is not always on the control of the device. "

So to summarize my lengthy answer, yes, it is absolutely possible to deliver secure enterprise mobility to all users without having to completely kill / wipe the device, even not on devices owned by the company - make sure you have complete control over the contents of the business (and nothing more), the ability to provision and de-provision the contents and wipe your hands of ☺ concern

SYN321: Get real visibility into your cloud network with AppFlow -

AppFlow is the performance of the basic visibility function implementation supported in NetScaler ADC. AppFlow defines a new segment in which you can extend the visibility aspect all the way from the network layer to the application layer. For visibility at the network most network performance management tools based on NetFlow / IPFIX protocol. AppFlow extends network visibility aspects layer to the application layer extending IPFIX record format to receive information from the application layer. For most application scenarios, you may want to get visibility within the time taken to establish the TCP connection, first byte time, the total time of the transaction, travel time return, the rendering time page load time and other client / server statistics. All these data points can be provided using AppFlow records and data can be exported NetScaler in execution.

So we built this exciting module, it was important for application performance management tools to understand the recording format AppFlow and be able to generate useful reports. So we worked with key suppliers APM as Splunk, etc. Solarwinds, and allowed these tools to understand AppFlow records to track performance at the application level.

When we look at the infrastructure Cloud fastest growth today, there is a clear need for the monitoring and management of performance at all levels. With NetScaler is the first platform network coverage, it adds a lot of value for the visibility factor driven by the AppFlow module within NetScaler. The main areas AppFlow can be useful in your deployment Cloud are:

  • Visibility inside the cloud network
  • Health surveillance for key components
  • access control, auditing and security
  • Performance monitoring for key components
  • cloud deployment Troubleshooting

Synergy between XenDesktop and NetScaler ... Synergy 2012! -

As you think about how you can expand your XenDesktop environment more business, security, availability and scalability of increasing concern. The design and construction of a solution for enterprise-class delivery requires thinking through three main areas:

  • Office Availability: deliver safely office right and applications to the user with a minimum of fuss and muss, and delivering even if an individual desktop image fails
  • High availability: ..
  • Disaster Recovery to ensure that if one component in Office distribution infrastructure fails, users will still be able to get to their office / global Roaming :. Addressing how users arrive at a desktop computer, if an entire site is unavailable, or if they move from place to place

These are design elements that the synergistic relationship between XenDesktop and NetScaler come in. XenDesktop provides the framework for desktop delivery; with features such as FlexCast models to ensure that users get workstation provided that are optimized for their needs, while NetScaler provides key elements to ensure that desktops are delivered safely and that the elements critical infrastructure are intelligently load balanced both within a data center and through an organization.

For example, consider load balancing. Most large-scale XenDesktop deployments have multiple Web Interface servers and XenDesktop controllers to meet the needs of end users, while providing availability if one component fails. But by itself, does not provide XenDesktop clever balancing of components and, in some cases, manual intervention is required to get the service going again if a component fails load.

is where NetScaler comes. Provide intelligent load balancing for XenDesktop components, NetScaler provides load balancing for Web Interface and XenDesktop DDC components, and uses intelligent monitors to ensure that the appropriate components on Citrix servers respond to requests, rather than load balance between to an IP address. With the combination of XenDesktop and NetScaler, enterprise-class availability and load balancing is achieved.

Want to know more? Come to Synergy 2012 and attend our session; SYN303 - Best practices for reliable and scalable deployments XenDesktop and XenApp with NetScaler where you will learn how you can easily provide:

  • intelligent load balancing for XenDesktop and XenApp
  • Secure Remote access integrated access Gateway
  • Server Load Balancing for global XenDesktop
  • optimized access with integrated Web Interface

And in a few simple click thanks to wizards! Join us in San Francisco in May to learn about the synergy created when XenDesktop and NetScaler used together with Synergy. I look forward to seeing you there!
