When deploying XenDesktop 5.5 would not it be great to have the best practices and Citrix Consultants design recommendations in the field? This is what is available in a new white paper Citrix Council detailing the new features and enhancements available in HDX XenDesktop 5.5.
As one of the contributors to this project, I was happy to see what a difference XenDesktop 5.5 made at the flash reading and Windows Media videos over the WAN. To validate the recommendations for new HDX features a WAN emulator was used to simulate different scenarios, ranging from a high-latency connection to a DSL trans-Pacific branch. The main objective of XenDesktop 5.5 was to provide a better user experience over the WAN and it definitely succeeds in this regard. A good example is the huge improvement in Flash Redirection on the WAN, a feature that previously required the implementation of the Flash Player on the server. Now the scalability of Flash Redirection server benefits, which offloads flash rendered to the user's device are available on both LAN and WAN connections.
