Cloud computing has emerged as the new model for the delivery and consumption of IT resources and applications. Given the economic attractiveness and agility of this model, both small and large scale organizations increasingly leverage cloud effect for their workloads. Cloud and has become the most common deployment model and now you must have heard of network services within cloud. But what is really " Application Networking " and why it should be in the cloud ?? interesting question, even with interesting answer !!
Application Networking is all about networking services necessary to ensure your applications are available, scalable, optimized, accelerated and inclusive . You need these services today for each application that is online now and even for non-critical applications. With cloud adoption we started to move our applications to cloud infrastructure but has thought pieces later. So if you want your applications are available, scalable, optimized, fast and secure deployment in the Cloud, then you definitely need to network application services there !!
Many times we confuse Application Networking with just load balancing in the Cloud. Load balancing is certainly the basic element, but Application Networking today has a broader scope covering Application Caching, Compression, Layer 7 content optimization, rewriting content, treatment politics, Application firewalling, attack protection, load balancing overall server and many others. Thus, the impact of application networking services is huge on the deployment of immaterial application where it is deployed. While applications have been deployed in the enterprise data center, it has always been tightly controlled and everyone used network application devices for all services. With Cloud there are new challenges with virtualization of the core application networking services.
The challenges begin with the virtualization of core network services of the application and delivery from platforms Cloud. Then comes the challenge of dealing with physical devices compared to virtual machines followed by the ability to ensure multi-tenancy with the best security possible. Various providers of cloud such as Amazon EC2, Rackpace and others have already added the central load balancing services to their offering of cloud and looking forward to another rest of services to their customers benefit other optimization benefits of acceleration and security beyond availability concerns addressed by pure load balancers. Most providers allow you to select and configure key parameters on Load Balancer to ensure that your application is highly available infrastructure.
