Big News on the client forehead HDX Ready! -

Citrix today announced an end-user customer of the most exciting initiatives of its history. Since there were no new features or fresh demos, as an end user, you may not have noticed. Called HDX Ready System on a Chip (SoC), the initiative is not running exactly on the tongue so your lack of notice was not entirely unexpected. However, the impact of this initiative will soon be felt by all end users and IT alike!

Initially supported by Fujitsu, LG, Texas Instruments, Dell, Huawei, HP, Wyse, VXL, NComputing and DevonIT with NComputing and Texas Instruments providing initial SoC reference design, this initiative has the potential to radically change and evolve the business office. By providing an integrated reference design for low cost HDX Ready capabilities, these partners - along with a long list of other providers who are not ready to attach quite yet their names - are exploring ways to create completely new endpoints and leverage design to create thin clients at considerably lower prices.

Unlike other protocols implementations in hardware, HDX Ready System-on-a-Chip is one of the reference models based on standards that are designed to track innovation in hardware and HDX. Other hardware technologies such as PCoIP-based cards are proprietary and expensive, and customers from strength to go through a major upgrade of the entire system to get the benefits of the latest innovations. HDX SoCs on the other hand, are reference models, standards-based HDX enhancements that offer both software and hardware. This intelligent design offers our customers flexibility to easily adopt new innovations HDX without going through an upgrade of major equipment.

To give you some ideas on what we're likely to see let me suggest that we talked to partners on creating HDX Ready displays, keyboards and even mice! In other words, you buy a screen or keyboard and all you have to do is plug it into a network enabled XenDesktop and HDX you get the full experience. While new form factors are interesting, we hope that the other side of the equation - the price equation - will have an equal or greater impact on the market. Citrix focuses on the dramatic reduction of the materials bill for HDX Ready systems. We believe that in a not too distant future, we can deliver reference designs that will cost our partners well below $ 50 to create and manufacture. This should clearly new clients HDX Ready that sell for under $ 100. Customers of the award will demolish the last barrier to mass adoption of virtual desktop.

More information on this initiative will be available in the coming months and will be one thing certain at this time next year the impact of this initiative will be seen positively by all Citrix customers and end users !
