NetScaler 10 introduces a number of interesting features. Today we look ActionAnalytics.
I got my first real taste of Big Data when making complex network models to grad school. In a special project, we have been modeled road traffic and calculate how pollution affected the environment. The system will generate data every step of the way and then reuse these data to calculate the next step after taking new entries along the way. The feedback loop was interesting and has changed the way our models reflect not only the data, but the lessons we took away from him.
Good times.
ActionAnalytics remember many of these experiments because the core of the idea is the same. How do you take real-time data being initiated by the system and reuse back into decision making?
For ActionAnalytics the data in real time are the internal flow AppFlow that pass through the system and belt out a connection data volume and detailed application. Normally, the data goes to a third party analysis engine, but with ActionAnalytics we can grab a copy for ourselves and use it to maintain an active state on what is happening in the system. For example, ActionAnalytics can maintain a list of the top 50 URL being accessed in the system so that only certain types of operations can be performed on these objects, but not the other, etc.
For administrators, ActionAnalytics is a means of analysis through the volume of data that flows AppFlow without waiting for post-processing. In making this rich vein of data immediately action, administrators are able to make quick work of establishing rules that work based on the real-time system status instead of having to wait for an administrator to their permit when the time is right.
data that is generated from ActionAnalytics becomes usable in two places: the engine of NetScaler NetScaler integrated policy and management tool. Using the policy engine is particularly interesting because it allows the results of the analysis are circled back and reused in the policy development process. This can become a particularly powerful way to act selectively on the traffic based on real-time conditions such as load. The management tool takes data ActionAnalytics and common graphics tracks by IP addresses, subnets, URLs, domains, among other things quickly. The administrator can then effectively pivot out of the core values and see how the changes in perspective based on specific views. For example, if a single subnet seems to generate a lot of traffic, a quick pivot out of the subnet you can see what URLs are accessible so that overaggressive bot against a DDoS attack can be differentiated.
ActionAnalytics is a game changer
There are many network infrastructure examples expel an abundant amount of data that has in turn created a rich ecosystem of tools that can analyze the data. Everything is big and powerful, but at the end of the day the value of these data is directly proportional to whether or not you can act on it. When you have to wait for the post-treatment of what to do, you've already missed the opportunity to make a difference.
ActionAnalytics changes the rules of what we should expect from the data that comes out of our network infrastructure. The new rule is simple: we should be able to see something happen and immediately have an impact on the way we handle the traffic. This could mean something as simple as connecting a business or something as complex as the conditional rewriting and re-routing of traffic. Anyway, the point is that the action happens immediately.
The next time you are looking at a problem and wish you could capture an event when something happened, think ActionAnalytics and ask yourself how it could help ... Right Now.
