Guardian Public Services Awards - a humiliating event -

I attended the guards Utilities awards last night because Citrix sponsored category Transformation (congratulations Brighton & Hove borough libraries!). We were joined by four customers and I think it's safe to say we all found a very humbling experience.

The challenges of public sector organizations face, whether due to budget or red tape, are important and yet there is clearly much make a huge difference to daily the lives of adults and children who face significant obstacles in their lives.

Tukes was the overall winner for its services for mental health patients. A number of people went to receive the award and see how happy they were, Tukes describing as "change my life" was a wonderful end to a pleasant evening.

In difficult times, it is very easy to forget the extraordinary work of our public services continue to do and I felt proud to be part of the event.

Oh, and Nicky Campbell was a great host too!
