As organizations adopt webcams in ever increasing numbers, optimized solutions that offload CPU-intensive video processing from the VDI server the user's device offers a significant advantage. Cisco just announced they are now shipping a VXI Unified Communications (UC) firmware update for the VXC 6215 thin client that allows voice and video peer-to-peer. Citrix XenDesktop VDI is the first product to be supported by the new Cisco solution, through our strategic alliance announced in October.
With this optimized architecture, facilitated by the Virtual Channel SDK Citrix, all media traffic flows directly from the VXC 6215 the other party to the video call or bridge video conference, bypassing the Citrix XenDesktop server completely. The UC application user interface works on the virtual desktop, but the media engine running on the user device. The result is uncompromised server scalability, reduces bandwidth consumption of the network and the zero degradation in audio-video quality.
