I started my career with Citrix in October 2011. I had known Big business years 'secure' iT where your laptop and the software is pre-determined for you, and you work out the final "approved" of Windows OS, which in my case was Windows XP until the end of 2011. installing personal applications at your own risk and fear the day that the computer finds out you're out of politics and makes you delete your iTunes account critical.
Unlike many people, I have never needed a separate PC for the home. I was working away and found myself answering emails all day and night, so soon my heavy work PC and I were inseparable. Although I had an iPad, my previous company does not allow us to use them at work, so my PC went where I did. I found the only use I had for my iPad was heated for the occasional game of Angry Birds. Oh, I also mentioned that the choice of BlackBerry phones were only? IT finally began to allow iPhones in 2011.
Now I find myself in a different kind of society - one that feels decidedly 21 st century. On my first day of work, I asked my manager when I would get my laptop, and he said he had me on "BYO" - in other words, 'Bring Your Own'. Of course, as a former worker who has been attached to my work PC, when I left my last employer, my laptop went with it. I was in a unique position - I can now choose my own laptop and my new employer makes me help me buy one
As I began the accession process to the BYO program, in Meanwhile, I needed. a loaner. My manager loaned me a laptop mature business with Windows 7 (new to me!) And I work for my basic needs in place: access to email, VPN and Citrix Intranet. At the same time, I started learning Windows 7, Office 2010 and began my initiation with XenDesktop and the client application to take advantage of XenDesktop, called Citrix Receiver. These are the solutions that enable workers to access network resources they need when they need it - essentially outside any device they want
Once I got home, I was able to Receiver connect easily to access some network resources I have. I also downloaded receiver to my iPhone and iPad, and very quickly been able to access business applications like SAP next to these devices. Suddenly, the ease of use of my iPad soared. Rather than drag my laptop down in the evening to answer emails and check some internal sites, I could do all this right next to my iPad or even my phone. In fact, this week I am able to make my choices in Healthcare 2012 SAP on my iPad in a restaurant. Perhaps a usual place to do it, but oh so convenient!
In the next editions of this series, I will discuss how I set up my new MacBook Pro and how I learned a little trial and error how best to take advantage of all the great technology Citrix offers.
