In TorGuard we are always committed to improving VPN security for our users, and we have recently taken steps to harden life private network with a VPN encryption new options. TorGuard software is powered by OpenVPN, an open source VPN protocol that offers many choices of encryption. We have now added new encryption selections for all VPN servers, allowing users the power to choose their own VPN encryption settings.

Cipher (Data Encryption)

This new option represents the symmetric encryption algorithm used by the VPN tunnel to encrypt and decrypt all data circulating through. TorGuard VPN servers now offer VPN following encryption options:

  • AES-128 - CBC Advanced Encryption Standard mode (128bit)
  • AES-256 - Advanced Encryption Standard (256bit) Fashion CBC
  • Blowfish - Blowfish (128bit) CBC mode
  • No -. No encryption

Recommended Encryption Settings

AES-256 .: the TorGuard VPN app defaults to AES-256 we suggest using to the highest levels of security. Although this encryption provides the highest data protection, it can cause a slight loss of speed for some users

AES-128 :. This option is the fastest available for most users and should be the first choice if the download speed and data privacy is a top priority

Blowfish :. TorGuard continue to offer Blowfish on all servers, although for faster speeds and better security we recommend using AES-128 whenever possible

None. This option is more like a proxy as NO data is encrypted. User login information is always encrypted and your IP address will always be hidden. You should choose "none" when performance and speed is the only requirement, while hiding your IP address.
