China blocks Wikipedia Again -

This year has not been good for Chinese users seeking to keep their Internet freedom. The "Great Wall of China," China's firewall, getting stronger and more advanced as the government began to target and take action against anyone around it. Most anonymous proxies already do not work in China, and most VPN providers. Popular sites like Google and Facebook are already limited in China, including the Chinese version of Wikipedia, but now that in the last days, all versions of Wikipedia are now locked behind the firewall of the government.

The Chinese version has been blocked for the better part of a decade the government to control the thoughts and knowledge of its people. It was first blocked for 19 days in June 04 about the 15th anniversary of the events of Tiananmen Square and blocks later also offered in September 04 and October 05.

speculation has now arisen as Wikipedia changed its HTTP protocol HTTPS root; it is more difficult for China to filter or censor specific pages of information. Instead of filtering, the government has just taken down altogether.

Founder Jimmy Wales spoke at the Energy Summit in Asia explaining how China "is able to filter out individual pages. So they made a choice to Wikipedia all or nothing".

While China's censorship of its citizens becoming more aggressive and therefore problematic for users who want access to online content, users can use the TorGuard Stealth VPN service and the new feature TorGuard stealth Proxy to bypass safely and efficiently completely firewall. TorGuard stealth and stealth VPN Proxy have been designed to be hidden and found in places like China that use deep packet inspection.
