What is net neutrality and Why Should You Care? -

There has been much discussion about net neutrality lately. Even President Obama has expressed his views on the current debate on "net neutrality." Read on to find out what is net neutrality and why you should care.

What that net neutrality

Net neutrality is the concept that whoever you get internet through - whether Verizon, AT & T, Bright House, Time Warner, Comcast, etc. - must transmit all your data in the same way regardless of their origin or what affiliations your provider may have with the issuing company or website.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the only US agency responsible for enforcing laws that support net neutrality in the United States. However, there are external influences that work to change these laws to better serve their agenda.

Internet service providers (ISPs) are in control of how we get our communication data, and the FCC wants to make sure they are not free to abuse control.

How Net Neutrality at risk?

large telecommunications companies now have the technology to examine all the data and information we send and receive through the Internet. For example, Web sites, e-mail, phone data, and even social media are able to be monitored by your ISP. The information collected by the service providers can be used to evaluate or determine how their customers use a particular Web or digital service site, which can then be used to pull deals on these websites and businesses.

ISPs essentially the power to interfere with incoming traffic communicators as they see fit. This could include slow or completely block communications communicators who do not like or even speed up communication with those who pay them. Currently, broadband service providers are considered "information services", so they are not required to offer the same services to everyone and every company.

The Legality Behind Data manipulation

The January 14, 2014 the Circuit Court of Appeals DC ruled on a challenge that was posed to the policies and regulations on neutrality the network of the Federal communications Commission, and the court found that this policy has exceeded the limits of the Federal communications Commission.

This means that the Federal Communications Commission should take legal action to enforce network neutrality, or "open Internet", the other major telecommunications providers will be in their right to interfere with Internet communications to leverage their own profits and relationships with other companies.

for example, one of FCC policies canceled by the circuit court prevented ISPs from charging sites like Spotify or Pandora extra money to distribute their data more quickly to customers. This competition between companies and similar sites will create an exclusive state between Internet service providers and websites available through their connections.

Service Providers Flexing Their power

power

Instances of major ISPs bending can already be observed, as Comcast has begun to show its strength and the fact that it can have on Internet connections from clients. Comcast examine ways in which it can sell CDN services, which can ultimately help websites increase their speed data delivery to consumers

providers could make a profit on both ends of the spectrum -. From the traditional subscriber model and web-based companies looking to deliver their content faster and more reliable to subscribers. The obvious problem, however, is that it is more than likely that Internet providers begin to flex too much muscle on their subscribers and severely disrupt the landscape of the Internet.

What you can do to preserve equity

there are several steps the public can take to fight against the imbalance of the Internet and to preserve the openness of the Internet as we know it. One way to prevent the demolition of network neutrality is to increase competition between the major Internet service providers.

If there is a greater number of Internet service providers to choose from, it will prevent a provider to take control of large amounts of people and Internet skew. Competition can be promoted by supporting the Internet providers that are not necessarily elite telecommunications companies. Dilute the potential power of these large companies can be the answer to the Internet constantly changing as we need.

Another way to take action is simply to let the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) knows he must protect Internet consumers and network neutrality by reclassifying Internet providers and telecommunications services.

They are not required to provide the exact same services for every company or a single consumer, making a court case disputing against these vendors. Redefine services could do for a stronger case in court and it could possibly be supported in a court of law. There are several websites dedicated to supporting net neutrality and protect the rights of Internet users to a leveled Internet.

The Federal Communications Commission is scheduled to vote 26th February on a new set of network neutrality policy Title II of the Communications Act, which would give consumers the best possible protection against broadband providers. It is essential to do your own research and find out exactly how these changes could affect your Internet service with your respective vendor.

The Internet is perhaps the greatest tool of our time, and his future depends on the next steps taken by our government to ensure fairness and balance.
